Across the decades, Turatti has adapted and innovated continuously, operating according to the inspiring principles of hard work, ethics and ongoing research for real progress.
While remaining intact, these ideals have been adapted to take advantage of trends over various eras, contributing to the company’s technological development.

Since its establishment in 1869, the group has been owned for five generations by the Turatti family, who infuses all operations with a commitment to innovation, social responsibility and providing cutting edge food processing solutions.

Our History

The history of the Turatti Group originates in Cavarzere (near Venice, Italy) in 1869 where a small artisan workshop is founded by Filippo Turati.

The area between the rivers Po and Adige is known as an inexhaustible source of agricultural products and vegetables of great quality, thanks to a particularly fertile land. Therefore, the workshop specialized in manufacturing for itself and for third parties, machinery for agricultural handling.

The activity is successful, delivering wooden farm carts and agricultural machines to the Venetian and Emilia regions.

Under the direction of Domenico Turati, the activity spread to Northern Italy and the workshop employs dozens of skilled craftsmen that are true artists in handling wood and iron.

In the years between the two World Wars, the workshop starts to manufacture some equipment and parts for the large sugar factory and distillery of Cavarzere (at the time of the largest of Europe).

The family surname is transformed into Turatti.

Domenico and his son Mario (who takes control of the workshop before World War II), are living in very difficult times. The town of Cavarzere is almost razed to the ground by aerial raids, as much to be defined as the “The Cassino of Veneto” from war bulletins.

The workshop is damaged and at the end of the war is rebuilt. Unfortunately, in November 1951, occurs one of the biggest natural disasters in Italy: the Polesine flood.

The whole workshop is under meters of water and the majority of the tools and instruments are lost or irreparably damaged.
The whole facility remains closed for almost one year.

The history of the family and of the company that bears its name, are marked by resilience and adaptability.

From the fifties, the Italian society rapidly changes from agricultural to industrial thus determining a slow transition also in the production of Turatti.

Through the fifties and the sixties, the workshop adapts all its machinery and tools to process stainless steel, focusing on utilizing exclusively this material by the end of Sixties.

With Antonio Turatti, the fourth generation of the family is now in charge, and it is about to leave the agricultural sector to enter the agro-industrial one.

In the early seventies, Antonio Turatti patented the first automated industrial Mushroom Trimmer in the world (still in production and in use all around the globe).

The Model TAS-21, will become an extraordinary success, thanks to its ability to automate the mushroom industry, which until then was characterized by large manpower and low productivity. Building up on the achievement of the Trimmer, the creation of a whole range of machines and systems for the then dynamic preserving industry takes place.

The expansion to the construction of complete plants occurs rapidly: from the receiving of the product to the delivery stage, each processing step is carried out through a series of new machines.

The workshop in now a company (incorporated as an S.R.L. in 1976), selling abroad, around Europe, and with models in North America.

France is steadily becoming the first foreign market of the company, and in 1980 Turatti France is opened in Allonnes.

Simultaneously, prestigious brands of the sector are acquired, such as Gatineau, allowing to consolidate and increase new sectors like potatoes processing. The company now has a large catalogue of stand-alone machines and whole processing lines for multiple vegetables and various industries.

In the mid-eighties, Turatti adapts some existing mushroom equipment to be able to process the very first fresh-cut products, being at the beginning of a revolution that will allow Turatti to create a market that it still leads today.

The fifth generation enters the company with Alessandro Turatti who enters the Sales Department upon graduation from University.

The worldwide expansion is continuing with the opening of offices (pioneers between the European companies) in New Dehli (India) and Moscow (U.R.S.S.).

The company develops the first equipment to process “Ready Meals” and develops the first concept that will change forever the frozen industry with the pellets. In Italy, Findus launch a very successful new category of products called “Quattro Salti in Padella”.

New innovative equipment is added to production, including an innovative rotary steam peeler and the first air dryer to gently dewater leafy greens.

The North America market continue to grow steadily, and the first office is opened in the greater Los Angeles area.

With the new millennium Turatti has become a worldwide leader in food processing technology, with processing equipment operating on all continents.

Another member of the fifth generation, Ilaria Turatti, joins the company as Lead for the Purchasing Department.

Under the presidency of Antonio Turatti, new companies are created: Lion FoodTech, targeting the foodservice market, and Dionysus Systems, offering a wide range of innovative solutions in the field of winemaking.

With the opening of Turatti North America in 2015 and of Turatti Pacific in 2017, Turatti Group has grown to serve multiple industries with cutting-edge technical, mechanical, robotics and software-based solutions.

The 22,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in Salinas, CA hosts the headquarters and manufacturing plants of Turatti North America and it is headed by Alessandro Turatti.

The Italian facilities are expanded, and a new office building is built to accommodate larger managing and technical teams. A state-of-the-art testing facility is also included.

Two new divisions are created to focus on Robotics and Nutraceuticals and a new company is created to operate maintenance.

With its corporate headquarters in Cavarzere (Venice, Italy), Turatti operates high-tech manufacturing facilities with relevant offices on three continents; in Salinas (California, USA) and in Hanoi (Vietnam).
